Does this be, and if so could anyone tell me where I can download it?

Simply looking for a gratuitous version that I can download, don't want to use the app store and don't have iLife.

I don't need a new and fancy version, something bones is fine - just looking for the latest I tin become for free on x.6.5 if such a thing exists.

No it does non exist. The iLife suite in of itself (older versions of it) are non free and at that place isn't a standalone version that is free other than the electric current version which will not work on Snow Leopard.

Why are you lot staying with 10.vi.5?

iLife '09 volition exist great for ten.6
(run your System Update to do all updates, which will update a diverseness of parts of your arrangement.)
Yes, you can cull a custom install of only Garageband.

But realised my original software reinstall drive (or the i that came with the laptop anyway - factory slim white apple 8gb stick) says on it "Mac OSX v10.half-dozen, iLife '11".

I tried installing GB (lone) off information technology but information technology fails with no reason given. It's the aforementioned bulldoze I used for installing OSX and had no problems (it has ten.6.v on information technology).

Is it just the bulldoze being flaky? Seems odd to include an incompatible version.

Where did you become the "manufactory slim white apple 8gb stick"?
Apple tree never supplied OS X on a flash drive, prior King of beasts (Os X 10.7)

Still should work, just Apple didn't provide that.
Did y'all run the iLife installer, and select a custom install of just Garageband?
Or, simply effort a file copy from the installer (which will not piece of work)?
Take yous tried just letting iLife install, without irresolute any settings? Y'all can ever just trash the apps that you don't desire to go on.

Is there some reason that you don't upgrade your OS X system to 10.vi.8? You tin can run Software Update, or just download and install the combined updater directly from Apple - from here: http://back up.apple.com/kb/DL1399

Where did you get the "mill slim white apple 8gb stick"?
Apple never supplied OS X on a flash drive, prior Panthera leo (Os X 10.vii)

Still should work, but Apple didn't provide that.

It's from Apple tree. The 2010 Macbook Air came with a USB software restore primal which had 10.half-dozen.4 or x.6.v on it.

Aye Apple did provide information technology, it's the i described in the post higher up. That is coincidentally my machine exactly - Late '10 MBA and the Apple stick has x.6.v and iLife '11 on it. I'1000 a bit surprised that people here said simply GB from iLife '09 would work but it seems the calculator came with 'xi - dislocated.

I ran the installer, and chose a custom install of only GarageBand (and the compulsory iLife files which yous can't united nations-check). I did not effort installing everything just I really don't desire to do that. Enough of free space on disk etc.

It doesn't try to do much and quickly says an unknown fault occurred, is there a log somewhere I could check?

Unless you lot take a peculiarly compelling reason not to update to 10.6.viii, run Software Update and apply all the updates that appear. It make take more than one round of update/restart to go them all. (Likewise note that all the updates you arrive Software Update are gratuitous.) Then encounter if Garageband installs. If information technology does, you'll need to run Software Update over again to get updates for Garageband.
